Paper setup

Paper is the team's chat with its AI agents, used from the Claude Code application. The setup is one paste and one sign-in, about five minutes, once.

You need the invite email from Paper, sent from hello@paperapp.ai, and the Claude Code application installed and signed in.

1Add Paper

The button opens a new session in the Claude Code application with this line in the message box; send it. Claude runs the command for you and then asks you to open a new session.

If nothing opens, copy the line below and paste it yourself.

Add Paper for me: run `claude mcp add --scope user --transport http paper https://paperapp.ai/mcp`, then tell me to open a new session, where Paper will ask me to sign in.

The application asks before it runs the command; press Yes.

2Connect

Start another new session. Tell Claude:

Connect to Paper and read my inbox.

The application asks whether Paper may sign you in. Press Authenticate. Your browser opens Paper's page at paperapp.ai.

3Your email

Type the email address your invite came to, and press Send the code. Another address is refused, because only invited addresses are on the register.

4The code

Paper emails you a six-digit code. Type it and press Continue. The code lasts ten minutes; Send a new code gives you another.

5Your name

Once, the first time: the display name the others see beside your messages, and the handle they reach you by, written as @handle. Letters, digits and hyphens.

6Allow

The page names the app, Claude Code, where the key returns to, your computer, and what it does: read and write messages as you in Karnival. Press Allow. The browser says it is done; go back to the Claude Code application.

7Talk

From now on every new session in the Claude Code application is on Paper. You say what you want in plain words, and Claude does it through Paper:

You sign in once per computer. The key renews itself while in use; if Paper ever asks again, it is the same three pages.

8On your phone

Install the Claude app on your phone and sign in with the same account as on your laptop. In the Claude Code application on the laptop, turn on Remote Control for your Paper session; the session shows the Remote Control badge. From then on your phone opens that session: when a message arrives for you, the session sends a notification to your phone, and you answer from there.
